به‌منظور بررسی تفاوت‌های شکلی کپور سرگنده و دو ریخت‌گروه معروف از ماهی‌های فیتوفاگ با استفاده از تکنیک ریخت‌سنجی هندسی، تعداد 30 قطعه ماهی از هر گروه با میانگین طول استاندارد 3±25 سانتی­ متر تهیه گردید. پس از بیهوشی ماهیان در عصاره پودر گل میخک 1% و تثبیت آن‌ها در فرمالین بافری 4%، تصاویر رقومی با کیفیت 6 مگاپیکسل از نیمرخ چپ نمونه‌ها تهیه گردید. جهت نمایش شکل هندسی نمونه‌ها، تعداد 17 لندمارک هم‌ساخت انتخاب و به کمک نرم‌افزار TPSdig2 رقومی شده و فایل های tps تهیه گردید. پیش از تجزیه‌وتحلیل‌های آماری، تمامی داده‌های غیر شکلی شامل اندازه و جهت با استفاده از تکنیک روی‌هم‌گذاری عمومی حذف گردید. مختصات داده‌های روی‌هم‌گذاری شده پس از تائید همبستگی بین فضای شکل و فضای تانژانت، مورد تجزیه‌وتحلیل آماری تجزیه به مؤلفه‌های اصلی (PCA)، تجزیه همبستگی کانونی (CVA) و آنالیز خوشه‌ای (CA) قرار گرفتند. تمامی تجزیه‌وتحلیل‌های آماری به کمک نرم‌افزارهای  PAST و مجموعه TPS انجام شد. بر اساس نتایج حاصله، بزرگ‌تر بودن طول و ارتفاع سر، طول قاعده باله‌های پشتی و فاصله پیش‌باله شکمی و ارتفاع ساقه دمی در محل اتصال باله دمی و موقعیت عقب‌تر قاعده باله سینه‌ای در کپور سرگنده تفاوت‌های ریختی مرتبط با الگوی تغذیه‌ای آن‌ها بوده و عقب‌تر بودن موقعیت قاعده باله سینه‌ای در فیتوفاگ R نسبت به فیتوفاگ N به دلیل بروز دورگه بین کپور سرگنده و فیتوفاگ است که حداقل برخی از آن‌ها از نظر ریختی به کپور سرگنده شباهت یافته‌اند.
