یکی از مهمترین فاکتورهای مرتبط با باروری مردان، وضعیت کروماتین اسپرم است. در جریان تکنیک‌های کمک باروری، به ویژه تزریق داخل‌ سیتوپلاسمی اسپرم، انتخاب طبیعی اسپرم‌ با کیفیت و با کروماتین سالم امکان‌پذیر نیست. بنابراین، کیفیت جنین و میزان حاملگی به دلیل DNA آسیب‌دیده اسپرم‌های درگیر در لقاح تخمک‌ها کاهش می‌یابد. در این مطالعه، فراوانی تراکم غیرطبیعی کروماتین و میزان آسیب کروماتین در مردانی با فاکتورهای مختلف ناباروری (مانند الیگوزواسپرمی، آستنوزواسپرمی، تراتوزواسپرمی، الیگوآستنوتراتوزواسپرمی و نرموزواسپرمی) ارزیابی و نتایج تزریق بررسی می‌شود. 195 بیمار در این مطالعه وارد شدند و وضعیت کروماتین اسپرم با استفاده از رنگ‌آمیزی آنیلین‌بلو و تولوئیدین‌بلو بررسی شد. همچنین میزان لقاح، کیفیت زیگوت و جنین، میزان حاملگی و سقط محاسبه شد. نتایج نشان می‌دهد که در نمونه‌های الیگوآستنوتراتوزواسپرمی، درصد کروماتین آسیب دیده بالاتر از نمونه‌های نرموزواسپرمی است. در این گروه میزان لقاح، کیفیت جنین و میزان حاملگی به طور معنی‌داری کاهش می‌یابد. همچنین میزان سقط بالا در این گروه مشاهده شد. در مجموع، فراوانی کروماتین آسیب دیده در فاکتورهای مختلف ناباروری مردان متفاوت است و می‌تواند نتایج را تحت تاثیر قرار دهد. بنابراین، ارزیابی وضعیت کروماتین اسپرم قبل از شروع چرخه می‌تواند نتایج درمان را بهبود بخشد.
